Dan Scheinfeld, a social anthropologist, has devoted most of his career to introducing and/or studying progressive education innovations in public Elementary Schools. During the years 1992-2003 Dan and his wife Sandra studied the Reggio-based, inner city preschool  program at Chicago Commons under the directorship  of Karen Haigh. In 2008 Dan, Sandra and Karen published a book on the Chicago Commons program entitled, “We Are All Explorers.” Currently his work is focused on the question of what kinds of developmental processes in early and later childhood are likely to result in children growing up caring for the natural world and becoming active, effective stewards of the earth’s natural environment.
