Classical Music Appreciation Through Art : Classical MATTARS
We start out with the premise there are many ways of listening to music and appreciating music. There is no right or wrong way to engage in music listening.

In this workshop, I will describe how I came to develop a method of teaching very young children classical music listening and response through [process-oriented] art. I will talk about the evolution of and theory behind such a course. I will describe the tools and techniques I have used to come up with these exercises in listening and response.

The course is of a highly individualized nature as it is born from my own listening and response to the music. I introduce a story line, and through guided imagery, give the listener a focus. Then through the use of art materials, participants are guided to make strokes/lines/shapes/movements and choose colors as they listen and as they respond.

The guided imagery, storylines and subsequent directives come out of my own unique response to the music – but the workshop will be valuable as it grants permission to use the materials and information gleaned in whatever ways are best suited to the participant.

Participants will be invited to play and explore their own responses to classical music through art using the methods discussed. Art materials will be provided.
