This workshop provides an overview of Developmental Discipline, an approach articulated in the book, Guiding Children’s Behavior: Developmental Discipline in the Classroom.  Developmental Discipline involves observing, self-reflecting, individualizing interventions, and building positive classroom communities to prevent or minimize conflicts and behavior challenges. Teachers partner with parents to observe children and develop collaborative responses to their behavior.  Workshop participants will be asked to reflect on their practice and replace commonly used discipline techniques that do not work or are potentially harmful with those that are specifically targeted to the developmental needs of individual children.  Effective strategies for responding to children’s behavior will be shared.
